Community Active Living

The goal of Community Active Living is to increase physical activity, primarily through walking and bicycling, in the community.

Efforts within the Community Active Living strategy are focused on creating policy, systems, and environmental changes that increase access to physical activity opportunities and support behavior changes for all. In Anoka County, SHIP has helped support the installation of bike "fix-it" stations, bike racks, park benches, and directional signage.

Safe Routes to Parks

Anoka County SHIP has worked to create safe routes to local parks so that children and families of all abilities are able to access the park. This included the installation of directional signage to the park and bike racks for people to safely store their bikes. Bike "fix-it" stations were also installed so bikers can make minor repairs and adjustments to their bikes while at the park.

Work is expected to continue, creating safe routes to parks in additional communities.

Fat Tire Bike Fleet

Through the support of SHIP, Anoka County Parks and Recreation was able to purchase fat tire bikes, equipment, and a trailer to bring fat tire bike programming to locations throughout the county.
