Snowmobile Safety Class
Classes will be held at the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office Firearms Range, 13299 Hanson Blvd NW, Coon Rapids; just east of 133 Ave NW/Avocet St NW near the Anoka County compost site.
Prior to the class the students are required to complete an independent online study course. Students are required to have a printout showing successful completion of the online course.
There are two steps to complete the Snowmobile Safety Certification for youth under age 16:
First, complete an Snowmobile Safety online course. The cost of the course is $24.95 and can be found on the DNR website at: https://www.snowmobilecourse.com/usa/minnesota/
Next, students ages 11 - 15 must attend a hands-on Snowmobile Safety Training class.
The training includes: Basic operation, protecting the environment, common snowmobile parts and controls, MN rules and laws, responsible riding skills for trail riding, and practicing/demonstrating skills on a snowmobile course.
Class Currently Full
Students are required to bring their own size appropriate snowmobile or share with another student in the class. This course emphasizes safety and proper use. The Sheriff’s Office and the DNR expect all students show respect and responsibility for a sport that can be dangerous when safety rules are ignored. Failure to follow the rules and safety procedures will result in immediate removal from the driving course and no safety permit will be issued.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend and participate. Adults participating in the riding course will need to have all the required safety equipment. Parents or guardians may participate free of charge unless they want to be certified. To become certified, parents or guardians must complete the independent online study course and pay the $10 fee online after completing the course.
