Household Hazardous Waste Facility
When you arrive at the facility, drive to the back of the building by following the traffic cones. Please remain in your vehicle until a technician assists you. For more information on the facility, please refer to the facility brochure (PDF).
The facility accepts household hazardous waste from residents of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington counties. Businesses, schools, and other organizations may NOT use the HHW facility. There is no charge to use the site. Bring identification, such as a driver’s license, as proof of residency.

- Aerosol cans that have contents remaining
- Antifreeze
- Automotive batteries
- Driveway sealer
- Fluorescent and HID bulbs and CFLs
- Gasoline and other fuels
- Household batteries (alkaline, lithium ion, cell phone, power tool batteries, button batteries, rechargeable batteries, etc.)
- Lead and lead tackle
- Mercury
- Paint (liquid only)
- Paint stripper
- Paint thinner
- Pesticides
- Propane tanks
- Sharps
- Used motor oil
- Used oil filters
- Varnish
- Wood preservatives
- Other household products that are corrosive, flammable, combustible, or poisonous.

- Dried paint

- Radioactive wastes

Safe Transportation Tips
- Do not mix products.
- Seal containers tightly to prevent leaks. Place any leaking containers into another container, such as a plastic bucket with a secure lid.
- Place containers upright in sturdy boxes to prevent tip-overs and spills in your vehicle.
- Do not tape fluorescent tubes together.
- Make sure all containers are 5-gallons or less in size and properly labeled with the contents.

To make your visit efficient, safe and productive, review the following guidelines before you visit the Anoka County Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
Who Can Use the Facility
- Households only.
- Residents of Hennepin, Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties only. Residents from Sherburne and Wright counties are not eligible to use our drop-off facilities.
Anoka County does not accept waste from businesses. Businesses include rental properties, condominium, neighborhood, or townhouse associations; governmental entities; home-based businesses; nonprofit organizations; or any other activity intended to produce income. Anoka County will not accept waste from commercial activities that was generated or stored in a household. For disposal options, businesses should contact the Anoka County Environmental Services Hazardous Waste Program.

When You Get to the Facility
- When you arrive at the facility, drive to the back of the building by following the traffic cones.
- Please remain in your vehicle until a technician assists you. For more information on the facility, please refer to the facility brochure (PDF).
- Residents should remain in their vehicles unless otherwise directed by staff.
- Please wear a mask.
- Items should be stored in the trunk of the vehicle, bed of truck, or in a trailer. Only bring in items that one person can load in a vehicle by themselves. Staff will remove items from vehicles.
- Expect longer-than-normal wait times.
More On Household Hazardous Waste
Unusable or unwanted chemicals are considered household hazardous waste when their disposal poses an environmental or health threat. When disposed of in the garbage, down the drain or on the ground, some household chemicals can threaten our environment, harm garbage collectors or hurt you.
Household hazardous waste does not include waste from businesses or organizations. Although the wastes may be similar in nature, business hazardous waste is strictly regulated in the State of Minnesota. For hazardous business waste information, contact Anoka County Environmental Services.
Most household hazardous wastes are hazardous because they are flammable, corrosive or toxic. Characteristic words indicate the type of hazard posed by a product - flammable, corrosive or toxic. Look for the signal words on the label. Signal words - caution, warning, danger, poison - indicate the product’s degree of hazard.
To help protect the environment and your health, choose the least hazardous product to get the job done.
