Adopt A Grandparent program

The current COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted daily routines and impacted person-to-person connectedness. In an effort to boost community networking and social ties, the Anoka County Attorney’s Office is launching an “Adopt A Grandparent” program.

The County Attorney’s Office values each resident of Anoka County, and has long been a defender of elder abuse laws. We wanted to take this opportunity to offer a new line of communication to a community of residents near and dear to our hearts. Our Victim/Witness Services unit -- which provides hands-on guidance for seniors impacted by crime and whose staff are specially trained in this area -- is leading the charge.

The original “Adopt A Grandparent” program started in London and the idea has connected people worldwide to enrich the lives of senior facility residents. We would love the chance to boost spirits and develop friendships in our own backyard during this difficult time.

Participation is completely voluntary and there’s no one-size-fits-all angle. For some residents, hand-written letters or postcards may work best, while others prefer virtual visits or emails. Connections can be ongoing or just a one-time interaction. We’d also love your ideas!

If you are a resident of an Anoka County senior living facility and would like to connect, you may:
