Anoka County Sheriff's Office Policies
Unmanned Aircraft System Operations Policy
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for the use of an unmanned aerial system (UAS) and for the storage, retrieval and dissemination of images and data captured by the UAS in compliance with Minn. Stat. § 626.19.
Portable Audio Video Recorders Policy
This policy provides guidelines for the use of portable audio/video recording devices by members of this office while in the performance of their duties (Minn. Stat. § 626.8473).
Personnel Complaints Policy
This policy provides guidelines for the reporting, investigation and disposition of complaints regarding the conduct of members of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office (Minn. R. 6700.2200). This policy shall not apply to any questioning, counseling, instruction, informal verbal admonishment or other routine or unplanned contact of a member in the normal course of duty, by a supervisor or any other member, nor shall this policy apply to a criminal investigation.
Registered Predatory Offender Policy
This policy establishes guidelines by which the Anoka County Sheriff's Office will address issues associated with certain offenders who are residing in the jurisdiction and how the Office will disseminate information and respond to public inquiries for information about registered offenders.
Sexual Assault Investigations Policy
The Anoka County Sheriff's Office adopts the Investigations of Sexual Assault model policy established and published by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (MN POST) (Minn. Stat. § 626.8442).
Standards of Conduct Policy
This policy establishes standards of conduct that are consistent with the values and mission of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office and are expected of all office members. The standards contained in this policy are not intended to be an exhaustive list of requirements and prohibitions but they do identify many of the important matters concerning conduct. In addition to the provisions of this policy, members are subject to all other provisions contained in this manual, as well as any additional guidance on conduct that may be disseminated by this office or a member’s supervisors.
Use of Force Policy
This policy provides guidelines on the reasonable use of force. While there is no way to specify the exact amount or type of reasonable force to be applied in any situation, every member of this office is expected to use these guidelines to make such decisions in a professional, impartial, and reasonable manner (Minn. Stat. § 626.8452).
Vehicle Pursuits Policy
Vehicle pursuits expose innocent citizens, law enforcement officers and fleeing violators to the risk of serious injury or death. The primary purpose of this policy is to provide deputies with guidance in balancing the safety of the public and themselves against law enforcement's duty to apprehend violators of the law. Another purpose of this policy is to minimize the potential for pursuit-related collisions. Vehicular pursuits require deputies to exhibit a high degree of common sense and sound judgment. Deputies must not forget that the immediate apprehension of a suspect is generally not more important than the safety of the public and pursuing deputies (Minn. Stat. § 626.8458 Subd. 1).

Automated License Plate Readers Policy
The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance for the capture, storage and use of digital data obtained through the use of Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology (Minn. Stat. § 626.8472).
Bias-Based Policing Policy
This policy provides guidance to office members that affirms the Anoka County Sheriff's Office 's commitment to policing that is fair and objective. Nothing in this policy prohibits the use of specified characteristics in law enforcement activities designed to strengthen the office’s relationship with its diverse communities (e.g., cultural and ethnicity awareness training, youth programs, community group outreach, partnerships).
Criminal Conduct on School Buses Policy
Criminal conduct on school buses has been identified by the legislature as a critical component for the safety and security of the community. The primary purpose of this policy is to provide deputies guidance in responding to reports of alleged criminal conduct on school buses. This office, in cooperation with any other law enforcement agency that may have concurrent jurisdiction over the alleged offense, is responsible for responding to all reports of criminal misconduct on school buses in this jurisdiction. This policy is not intended to interfere with or replace school disciplinary policies that relate to student misconduct on school buses (Minn. Stat. § 169.4581).
Deputy Response to Calls Policy
The State of Minnesota finds that emergency vehicle operations are an integral part of law enforcement’s commitment to public safety. This policy provides for the safe and appropriate response to all emergency and non-emergency situations (Minn. Stat. § 626.8458, Subd. 1).
Domestic Abuse Policy
The purpose of this policy is to provide the guidelines necessary to deter, prevent, and reduce domestic abuse through vigorous enforcement and to address domestic abuse as a serious crime against society. The policy specifically addresses the commitment of this office to take enforcement action when appropriate, to provide assistance to victims and to guide deputies in the investigation of domestic abuse.
Eyewitness Identification Policy
This policy sets forth guidelines to be used when members of this office employ eyewitness identification techniques (Minn. Stat. § 626.8433).
First Amendment Assemblies Policy
This policy provides guidance for responding to public assemblies or demonstrations.
Missing Persons Policy
This policy provides guidance for handling missing person investigations.
Part-Time Deputies Policy
The Anoka County Sheriff's Office Part-Time Unit was established to supplement and assist licensed sheriff's deputies in their duties. This unit provides professional, licensed part-time deputies who can augment regular staffing levels (Minn. R. 6700.1110).
