If significant financial hardship prevents you from paying licensing fees, contact your licensing social worker. Licensing fees may be paid in two equal payments or you may qualify for a reduced fee based on your household income and family size.
The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) charges a fingerprint background study fee of $40 for each adult household member and caregiver. In addition, there is a fee of $9.10 per subject that is charged by the fingerprint vendor. There is a $20 fee for any minors. Background studies are valid for five years.
There may be a fee for fire inspections. It depends on the city in which the child care home is located. The fee varies, but, according to law, it may not exceed $50 per inspection.
Well water testing is required annually for Licensed Child Care Homes. Wells need to be checked for coliform and nitrates. Wells can be tested through the county or privately and there is a fee for both. The current lab fee is $30 (lab fees subject to change).
Samples are accepted Mondays (8 a.m.-4:15 p.m.) and Tuesdays (8 a.m.- noon). If a holiday occurs on a weekday, please call before submitting your sample to Environmental Services, 6th floor of the Government center.
