Economic Assistance Director Wins Award
The board recognized Brad Thiel, director of the Anoka County Economic Assistance Department, for the work he’s done at the Minnesota Legislature that resulted in securing more funding statewide for child support programs. Adoption Day Event Nov. 23
The board passed a resolution recognizing November as Adoption Awareness month and reminded the public that from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 23 Anoka County’s Adoption Day Event will be held at the Anoka County Government Center and Courthouse, 2100, 3rd Ave., Anoka. Since this event was first organized 10 years ago, 105 children have been adopted into 73 families. For more information on this event, click HERE.
Construction Projects Approved
The board approved a resolution authorizing Anoka County to enter into a local road improvement program with the Minnesota Department of Transportation for the reconstruction of Hornsby Street near Highway 97 and I-35 in the City of Columbus.
The board also approved a purchase of service contract with HDR Engineering for preliminary and final design services for the reconstruction of 7th Avenue between North Road and Bunker Lake Boulevard. This project will include channelization, medians and turn lanes. This project is planned before the scheduled U.S. Highway 10 improvement project that will take place in 2022, so traffic diverted from Highway 10 into Anoka will be able to move through the area more efficiently. McPherson Appointed Transportation Division Manager
The board approved an employment agreement with Joe McPherson which resulted in him being appointed transportation division manager effective Nov. 12. Commissioner Mandy Meisner abstained from the vote. McPherson will oversee the Highway Department, the County Surveyor’s Office, Geographic Information Systems, Transit and Fleet Services. McPherson had been appointed county engineer at the previous meeting and now has a dual role with the county. To watch the video on this item, click HERE.
