Board Recognizes Correctional Officers
The board commended Anoka County’s correctional officers as part of National Correctional Officers Week, which this year is May 1 to 7. Peace Officers Recognized

New Intersection to be Constructed at 7th, 143rd Avenues
As part of a joint powers agreement, the cities of Anoka and Andover have partnered with Anoka County to design and construct a new intersection at 7th and 143rd avenues. The project improvements include the addition of right and left turn lanes at 143rd Avenue, the construction of a new traffic control signal system at 143rd and other associated improvements on 7th Avenue from Bunker Lake Boulevard to 145th Avenue. Intersection Improvements Planned at Coon Rapids Blvd., Blackfoot St.
The board approved a joint powers agreement with the City of Coon Rapids for intersection improvements on Coon Rapids Boulevard at Blackfoot Street. The project will update the existing pedestrian accommodations to current ADA standards and reconstruct the existing traffic signal at this intersection. Construction is scheduled for this year. West Freeway Drive to be Realigned in Columbus
The board approved a joint powers agreement with the City of Columbus for the realignment of West Freeway Drive and improvements to Lamprey Pass (DNR roadway). Columbus’ portion of West Freeway Drive is the last project to be completed in association with the I-35/Highway 97 interchange improvements. Contract Approved with Armored Car Service
The board approved a contract with a new armored car service for the secure transport of funds from the county’s cash-based locations to the bank for deposit into the county’s accounts. Anticipated improvements with this new contract include faster access to working capital; improved cash visibility and accountability; more efficient use of labor; improved security; improved accuracy and automation. Grant Funding Awarded for Election Security
The board accepted a 2020 Help America Voting Act Election Security grant. Per statute, the grant funds must be used for improving accessibility, implementing security improvements for elections systems, and/or for funding other activities to improve the security of elections. Donations Accepted for Public Safety
The board accepted a $7,500 donation from AKC Reunite, which will be used to assist in the training of one of the Sheriff’s Office K-9 teams. The board also accepted a $20,000 donation from Guy Lidstad and Jennifer Roth to assist in the purchase and training of a new K-9 officer. For more information on these items, click HERE.
