Blaine Resident Recognized for Selfless Act
The board recognized Blaine resident Tracy Peck, who was recently featured on CNN and CBS News for her selfless act of giving two Yugoslavian refugee girls $100 and her own earrings in an envelope on a plane in 1999. It took the girls decades, but they eventually tracked Tracy down to thank her. That money and the kind gesture helped them start their lives in the United States. Extension Regional Director Gives Report
Craig Taylor, regional director of University of Minnesota Extension, visited the meeting to talk about Extension’s mission to build better communities through education and training. Spring Road Restrictions Established
State statute allows road authorities to establish weight restrictions on their highways because of roads being more susceptible to damage during the freeze/thaw cycles in the spring. Radisson Road, Cloud Drive Intersection to be Improved
The board approved awarding a contract to Forest Lake Contracting, Inc. for intersection improvements at Radisson Road and Cloud Drive, in the City of Blaine. The improvements will include a new traffic control system, associated roadway improvements, and pedestrian ramp improvements. Construction is expected to start in the spring/summer of this year. Finance Software from Workday Purchased

RFP for Subgrantees Approved for Homelessness Program
The board approved a request for proposal for subgrantees to provide service for the October 2023 through September 2025 Family Homeless Prevention Assistance Program (FHPAP) and respond to Minnesota Housing Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program’s RFP. FHPAP is designed to serve families with children, single adults, and unaccompanied or minor parenting youth (24 years of age or younger) who are either homeless or at serious risk of homelessness. County Applies for Homework Starts with Home Grant
The board approved the Anoka County Community Social Service and Behavioral Health Department issuing a request for proposal to subgrantees and to apply for Minnesota Housing’s Homework Starts with Home Grant. This grant is a program which provides rental assistance, subsidies and other services and supports to assist children and youth at risk or experiencing homelessness. Board Approves Transfer of Funds for Graco Project
The board approved a transfer of $1 million from asset preservation to the Anoka County Housing and Redevelopment Authority for the Graco Economic Development Project. This project will create 55 new permanent full-time jobs paying an average of $58,000 a year by Dec. 31, 2028. Bethany Fountain-Lindberg Appointed Chief Deputy County Attorney
The board approved the appointment of Bethany Fountain-Lindberg as chief deputy county attorney, effective Feb. 6. She has been a judge in the state’s Tenth Judicial District since December 2009.
