ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

Winter Animal Tracking
Join naturalist Amy Manning for a morning of tracking and exploring at Wargo Nature Center! Amy is a certified wildlife tracker and active member of the Minnesota Tracking Club. We’ll spend a little bit of time in the classroom to introduce the basics of wildlife tracking, and then we’ll get out on the trails to see what’s going on at Wargo when there are no humans around! Warm clothes are required; a snack, water bottle, and notebook are recommended. Pre-registration is required.

Winter Night Hike
Explore the nighttime world and some of the Minnesota animals that frequent it. We’ll take a nighttime trek around Wargo Nature Center’s Heritage Lab property listening for owls and looking at the stars. Bring a flashlight and bundle up. Pre-registration is required.

RECREATION PROGRAMS

Snowshoeing

Winter is a great time to get out and enjoy nature’s wonders. The Coon Rapids Dam is a wonderful setting for exploring on snowshoes.  If there is enough snow we will break out the snowshoes and get into the less traveled areas of the park. Pre-registration is required. 

East Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park, Visitor Center

Ski By The Light Of The Moon
Enjoy the beautiful ski trails at Bunker Hills Regional Park under a full moon. After a little skiing we will gather for dinner around the fireplace. Ski rental is available for an additional fee; supplies are limited.  The program includes food, skiing, and refreshments. Pre-registration is required.

Learn To Cross Country Ski
Cross country skiing is great exercise and a fun way to get outdoors in the winter. What better place to learn than in one of Anoka County’s beautiful parks!  Our introductory classes are appropriate for people of all abilities. The activity fee includes ski rental, instruction, and cross-country skiing through our scenic Anoka County Parks. No experience necessary. Pre-registration is required.
