Special Weapons & Tactics
S.W.A.T. was established in 1980 in Anoka County and transitioned to a multijurisdictional team in 2024. The S.W.A.T. team provides a highly trained tactical response to situations such as barricaded subjects, active shooter situations, and serving high-risk warrants.
Continued Training
The S.W.A.T. team trains 1-2 times monthly on top of their regular law enforcement training. The team also follows the FEMA S.W.A.T. model and attends additional training from FEMA.
Team Members
The S.W.A.T. team consists of 54 members from agencies within Anoka County. There are 30 operators, 7 snipers, 10 negotiators, and 4 paramedics. The team members are from Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, Allina Emergency Services, and Anoka, Fridley, Lino Lakes, Ramsey, Columbia Heights, Centennial Lakes, Coon Rapids. and Blaine Police Departments. Additionally, there are 3 S.W.A.T. team analysts, a commander, and an assistant commander.
